THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, a one-out infield single and throwing error put Ali Wagner at second base. After moving to third on a groundout, a second error in the frame allowed her to score for a 1-0 lead.
• Three errors and heads up baserunning by Messiah led to a four-run third inning. None of the three hits in the inning left the infield.
• Jaden Keister led off the sixth with a pinch-hit single before moving up a base on a sacrifice, to third on a flyout and scoring on a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead.
• McKenzie Shannon led off the seventh with a double before two singles and a walk made it 7-0 with no outs. After a popup, RBI single, and fielder's choice had the Falcons in front 8-0 with two outs and the bases loaded, Alexa Burger cleared the bases with a double the gap for an 11-0 lead.
• With one out in the bottom of the inning,
Olivia Moser (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville),
Giovanna Komst and
Allie Cluster (Pasadena, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) all singled to load the bases.
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) drew a four-pitch walk to break up the shutout. After a flyout for the second out,
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and
Jess Campana (Brick, N.J./St. John Vianney) each drew bases-loaded walks to make it 11-3. Lydia Cullison then had to re-enter the circle and got a flyout for the final out of the game.
• O'Leary led off the bottom of the first in the second game with a double before scoring on a one-out
Carlie Goldstein single up the middle to stake Gettysburg to a 1-0 lead.
• Maggie Chinnadurai singled to lead off the third and stole second. After back-to-back strikeouts, Kyley Mellage reached on an infield single that moved pinch-runner Joy Hedrick to third. Mellage then took second when the Bullets vacated the bag. Shannon followed with a single up the middle that scored both runs and put the Falcons in front, 2-1.
• Messiah stretched the lead to 3-1 in the fourth after Elianna Litwin struck out but reached on a wild pitch. A hit batter and walk loaded the bases before a groundout scored Litwin for the two-run advantage.
• Hopple lined a ball just out of the reach of the third baseman to start the home fourth before a two-out bunt single from
Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) and throwing error put runners at the corners. An O'Leary walk loaded the bases for Campana, who sliced a single to right to score Hopple and Quinn, tying the game.
•
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) laced a ball back to the pitcher to lead off the fifth before giving way to pinch-runner
Nikki Caesar (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) at first. A sacrifice moved Caesar into scoring position before she took third on a groundout and scored on a Moser line-drive single for a 4-3 edge.
• A hit batter, passed ball and sacrifice bunt put Rebekah Wiley at third base with one out in the top of the sixth. Chinnadurai helped herself out with a single up the middle to retie the contest.
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Chinnadurai then combined to retire the next eight batters in order before Goldstein led off the seventh with a double into the left-field corner. She moved up 60 feet on a groundout and was able to when Komst got a 2-1 pitch that she was able to drive as a bouncer back up the middle for the game-winning knock.
