THE LEADERS
•
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) led the Bullets with a 2-for-2 game two, adding a walk and driving in the lone Gettysburg run of the day.
•
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) also had two hits in game two.
FOR THE FOES
• Emily Bertrand led the Garnet with two hits in the nightcap – one of three players with a pair of hits in the game.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the opener, Iris Barone drew a walk to lead off the home first. After a strikeout, Alexandra Simon reached on an infield single to put runners at first and second. An error allowed Olivia McClammy to reach, scoring Barone with runners at second and third. A wild pitch after a second strikeout plated Simon for a 2-0 lead.
• Swarthmore once again loaded the bases with one out on three straight singles in the third but did not score. Gettysburg best threat came a half-inning earlier when
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) led off the frame with a double and moved to third with one out on a fly out but was stranded there.
• In game two, Barone led off the bottom of the inning with a single before moving to second on a sacrifice and scoring on a Simon single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.
• The Bullets loaded the bases in both the second and third but could not score before the Garnet got a pair of hits and an error to make it 2-0 with one out and the bases loaded in the third. A fielder's choice, error and passed ball stretched the lead to 5-0.
•
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) drew a walk to lead off the fifth before moving to second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back singles from
Allegra DeCandia and
Giovanna Komst made it a 5-1 game with nobody out but a fielder's choice and second double play in as many innings got Swarthmore out of the inning.
• Bertrand led off the home fifth with a double before pinch-runner Caterina Reed scored on a Grace Taylor single up the middle. A hit batter and back-to-back two-out singles made it an 8-1 game before McClammy doubled home the game-ending run.
