THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg swept Rowan in three straight sets, with two being decided by seven or more points, to win their first match of the Messiah Quad, 3-0.
THE LEADERS
•
Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied ten kills and put up four blocks.
•
Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/The Beaumont School) followed right behind with nine kills and added five digs.
FOR THE FOES
• Jena Kaul led the Profs in kills with nine.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg and Rowan remained tied until 3-all, before Gettysburg launched off on a five-point run which included a Holtz kill and block. The Bullets rode the momentum to a 20-11 set lead and widened it to a 24-14 set point lead, before Rowan battled back to a 24-18 score. Gettysburg finally earned the set one win on a Rowan service error.
• The Bullets got out to a 6-2 second set lead before Rowan turned on their offense and capitalized on Gettysburg errors to bring the set within one point, 14-13. The teams tied at 15-all and notched five more instances where they were separated by just one point. Kills by three different Rowan players allowed them to take their first lead of the set, 23-19, and it looked like the Profs would take set two. However, Gettysburg was able to respond by winning the next six points to overcome their deficit and win set two on an
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) kill.
• Set three yielded four early ties before Gettysburg pulled away with three straight kills by
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck), Holtz, and Radolovic to lead 16-11. Gettysburg widened the gap to 23-15 using kills by three different players. Rowan chipped in two more points before two straight
Kylie Ulrich (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) kills cemented the 25-17 third set win.
THE INSIDE STORY
