THE SKINNY STORY
Christopher Newport, ranked sixth in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Div. III poll, took advantage of a penalty shot attempt in the 24th minute for a 1-0 win over Gettysburg on the first day of the Captains Classic.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a throw-in deep in the Gettysburg end in the 24th minute, Christopher Newport drew a foul inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Kyleigh Gough stepped up and buried the attempt for a 1-0 lead at the 23:06 mark. About a minute later, lightning in the area forced a 40-minute delay. When the game resumed, neither team was able to find the back of the night and the penalty shot stood as the contest's lone goal.

• Christopher Newport finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots and 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
• It is the second straight season the Bullets have played a top-10 Captains squad to a 1-0 game.
