THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg jumped out to a 12-4 lead and maintained a lead of at least eight points the rest of the way, defeating Washington (Md.), 66-47.
THE LEADERS
•
Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) led the Bullets with 16 points – all of which came in the first half.
•
Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) added 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
•
Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep School) chipped in 10 points, three rebounds and three blocked shots.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• After Abby Meredith hit a pull-up jumper for the game's first points,
Alayna Arnolie responded with a wing triple with 8:56 remaining in the first quarter and Gettysburg did not trail the rest of the way. Baskets from
Shinya Lee and an Arnolie breakaway layup stretched the lead to 7-2 just 2:32 into the game. A second Arnolie trey with 3:24 remaining made it a 12-4 game before the Shorewomen canned a pair of free throws in four attempts to close to within 12-6 after the first quarter.
• Arnole and
Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) drained 3-pointers on the opening two possessions of the second period to extend the advantage to 18-6. The lead swelled to its largest in the opening half at 27-12 when
Mackenzie Szlosek hit a 3-pointer with 4:26 to play for her only first-half points. Washington closed to within 29-21 before Arnolie drained a step-back jumper for a 31-21 halftime lead.
• Two Karry Kelliher free throws 24 seconds into the second half once again cut the deficit to single digits but Lee sandwiched a pair of baskets around an
Emily Violante (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) driving layup to push the lead back to 14 before two minutes had elapsed in the third frame. The lead remained between 10 and 15 points for the remainder of the quarter.
• A single
Kimberly Hopkins (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) free throw with 9:38 showing in the final quarter made it a 51-37 game.
Marah McHugh (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished a dumpdown pass from Violante to make it a 55-40 lead with 6:57 remaining, sparking an 9-3 stretch that put the game away just 3:24 later.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Marah McHugh scored eight points in a game for the fifth time this season. She also added a career-best eight rebounds to go with two steals and a blocked shot.
•
Emily Violante matched McHugh with eight points and eight rebounds while also matching her career high with five assists.
• The Bullets shot 46 percent for the game, including 45 percent from long range, while holding the Shorewomen to 29.8 percent from the floor.
