THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 15th in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, shot 58.3 percent in the second and third quarters to open up a 30-point lead on Randolph-Macon and record a 79-47 victory in the opening game of the Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic at Roanoke.
THE LEADERS

Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) led the Bullets with 27 points on 11 of 16 shooting, including going 5-for-7 from deep. She also had four rebounds and two steals.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Five points from
Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) keyed a 9-0 start over the game's first 3:12. Triples from Marissa Ziegler and Morgan Miller closed the margin to 9-6 just 1:17 later. The Bullets, however, put together a 7-2 counter to push the lead out to 16-8 with 2:20 remaining in the opening quarter. Randolph-Macon, however, scored the final seven of the period to close the deficit to 16-15.
• Four points from
Emily Violante (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) hit a pair of layups to key a 10-3 run over the first 4:26 of the second quarter, to build an eight-point edge. Four straight points from Juliana Park closed the margin to 28-23 but elbow jumpers from
Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep School) and
Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) re-established the nine-point lead. Park scored five of the game's next seven points but Szlosek got to the rim in the final two seconds of the half to take a 37-28 lead into the break.
• Arnolie hit a pair of 3-pointers to key a 12-0 run over the first 2:56 of the third quarter. Catherine Kagey put a momentarily halt to the run, hitting a layup with 6:42 showing but Szlosek had the immediate response and Gettysburg scored another 10 in a row to open up a 29-point lead with 3:14 to play in the period. The Yellow Jackets put together a mini-run, scoring six of the game's next eight points to pull within 61-36 but the Bullets scored the final five of the period to take a 30-point lead to the fourth quarter. Randolph-Macon went 3-for-5 in that run after being held to 1 of 12 shooting to start the half.

Tatum Murray (Newton, Mass./Newton South) 3-pointer made it a 75-45 game with 4:15 to play. After two Park free throws, Violante and Lee each hit jumpers for a 32-point final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg shot 11 of 17 (64.7 percent) in the third quarter to outscore Randolph-Macon 29-8 in the period and turn the nine-point edge into a 30-point lead.

Mackenzie Szlosek and
Emily Violante each finished with 12 points and six rebounds each. Szlosek also had three assists.

AB Holsinger (Charlottesville, Va./Langley) dished out six assists.
