Gettysburg pulls away late to down Marymount

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 15th in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, finished the game on a 13-4 run to pull away from Marymount late and record a 62-47 win in the championship game of the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament in Arlington.

THE LEADERS
Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) led the Bullets with 23 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists to claim most outstanding player of the tournament honors.
AB Holsinger (Charlottesville, Va./Langley) chipped in nine points to go with seven assists and five boards, joining Arnolie on the all-tournament team.

FOR THE FOES
• Kaylah Barr led the Saints with 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting. She also had five rebounds.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Marymount jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute. Alayna Arnolie hit a 3-pointer to get Gettysburg on the board with 8:52 showing. After a Kelly Ceroll jumper, the Bullets scored seven straight to open up a 10-6 edge with 5:46 remaining. The Saints halted a stretch of 5 minutes, 25 seconds without a point with an Ava Achtyl pull-up. Kaylah Barr tied the game at 10-all before Emily Violante (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and AB Holsinger each hit layups in the final 1:23 to take a 14-10 lead after one quarter.
• The teams traded baskets in the first minute of the second quarter before six straight Marymount points gave the hosts an 18-16 edge with 6:47 on the clock. Trailing 21-20 on a Jaylah Thompson free throw, Skylar Reale (Warren, N.J./Morristown Beard) hit a 3-pointer on the wing for a 23-21 lead. Thompson canned an elbow jumper on the other end to once again tie the game but Holsinger found Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness) and Reale for layups on consecutive possessions to open up a 27-23 edge with 2:30 remaining. Thompson hit a 3-pointer in the final 20 seconds but Holsinger responded by getting all the way to the basket for a 31-26 lead at the break.
• Four points from Arnolie in the first 2:02 of the third quarter extended the lead to nine but Marymount countered with nine of the next 11 points to close to within 37-35 with 4:01 showing. Three points from Violante extended the lead to five but Barr hit a jumper to make it a 40-37 game with 1:46 showing. Arnolie, however, drained a triple from the top of the arc as the period expired to stretch the lead back to six entering the final period.
• Arnolie pulled up for a 15-footer on the first possession of the fourth quarter and Lee hit a turnaround 12-footer to extend the lead to double digits for the first time 49 seconds into the final period. The Saints trimmed the margin to 49-43 on an Achtyl putback with 6:39 to play but an Arnolie step-back and then a steal-and-layup stretched the lead back to 10 midway through the period. Two Lee layups around a Violante steal-and-score in just 67 seconds opened up a 59-45 lead with 3:23 remaining. Samantha Bulik hit a jumper with 2:52 to play but that was the last points for the home team. Arnolie put the game away with a her third 3-pointer of the day with 1:27 remaining for the final margin.

THE INSIDE STORY
Shinya Lee added 12 points and eight rebounds. She also blocked another four shots to give her 169 for her career, leaving her eight shy of tying the program record.
• Gettysburg held a 40-32 advantage on the glass and forced 20 Marymount turnovers.

Gettysburg returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
