GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg will travel to Swarthmore, Pa., for the first round of the double-elimination portion of the 2024 Centennial Conference (CC) softball championship tournament on Thursday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
In the second year of the new five-team format, the Bullets (25-11, 11-5 CC) earned the No. 3 seed and will travel to No. 2 Swarthmore (23-9, 11-5 CC) in one of the two games. Top-seeded Washington (Md.) 20-17-1, 11-5 CC) will host the winner of the single-elimination first-round game for a game that will also begin at 4 p.m. Fifth-seeded Dickinson (11-20, 8-8 CC) will travel to fourth-seeded Muhlenberg (23-14, 9-7 CC) in the opening game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The four remaining teams will all travel to Chestertown for the remainder of the double-elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Games being at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Tickets will be sold for each day of the CC tournament and will be available soon on the Centennial ticketing homepage. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students age 6 through high school and senior citizens. Children five and under as well as students and staff from conference institutions are free.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin at 16 regionals sites on May 16-18. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday, May 13 at 1 p.m.
The Bullets are seeking their sixth conference title. It is the 16th tournament appearance for Gettysburg. The Bullets also in search of their fifth NCAA tournament bid.
In the regular-season meeting between Gettysburg and Swarthmore, the split the doubleheader in Gettysburg on Mar. 30. The Bullets won game one 4-0 before the Garnet captured game two, 9-2.
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) leads the offense this season with a .407 batting average and team-best 46 hits. She has five doubles and a triple for a .469 slugging percentage and has also drawn 12 walks for a .472 on-base percentage. She has 27 runs scored and 12 RBIs.
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) is hitting .341 on the year with 31 hits that includes a team-high 13 doubles. She has driven in 21 runs.
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) is hitting .340 with 36 hits, 14 RBIs and 12 walks.
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) leads the pitching staff with a 1.87 earned-run average. She is 10-5 in the circle and has 10 complete games among her 17 starts. She has struck out 89 and walked just 20 in 112 1/3 innings pitched.
