THE REST OF THE STORY
• Stevens struck first in the opening six minutes of play, capitalizing on a player-up opportunity. Just 90 seconds later, Gettysburg had a player advantage and Basso scored her first of the day to tie the score. In the final 2:25,
Emily Crane (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) and Maddie Hogan traded goals for a 2-all deadlock after the first 15 minutes.
• The Gettysburg defense worked in lockstep to shut Stevens down for the next three quarters, limiting the Ducks to just three shots in the second stanza.
Julie Breedveld (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) scored another advantage goal just 55 seconds into the quarter, and with 8:40 showing, a streaking Macatee cleared the ball and fed a pass to Daly who connected for the Bullets' fourth goal and Macatee's first career point. A failed clear by Stevens allowed Basso to pick up the ground ball, and she dished to
Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) to make the score 5-2. In the final 24 seconds of the second quarter, Daly was awarded a free position attempt and scored to set the 6-2 margin at halftime.
• Gettysburg scored three goals in less than three minutes at the start of the second half.
Sophie Smith (Great Falls, Va./Langley) got things rolling, grabbing a Basso pass to finish for the 7-2 lead. Goals by Daly and Basso, each assisted by Sullivan, made it a seven-goal game after the third quarter. The defense limited the Ducks to just three shots and caused two turnovers in the third stanza.
• Just 53 seconds into the final quarter of play, Daly scored off a pass from Breedveld for Daly's 100th career goal. Breedveld then got another goal from Basso for the senior's record-tying 309th point. With 6:43 showing, Basso scored her 310th point with an assist to
Meghan Crane to move into first place all-time. The defense shut down Stevens the rest of the way, causing two turnovers in the final 5:09 and not allowing a shot from the Ducks for a 12-2 final.
