Gettysburg heads to Middletown for Regional Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA has announced the regional hosts for the 2024 NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament and Gettysburg learned that its road to Salem will run through Middletown, Conn., next weekend.

Wesleyan will host one of the four regional sites on Saturday and Sunday. The four regional winners advance to the national semifinals at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va., on Friday, May 24.

The Bullets (17-3) will take on William Smith (18-3) in the second third-round game at 2:30 p.m. The host Cardinals (16-3) and Colby (12-6) will square off in the day's first third-round game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday's winners will meet in Sunday's quarterfinal game at 1 p.m.

Gettysburg advanced to the regional weekend with a 13-11 win over No. 20 Trinity (Conn.) on Sunday. William Smith defeated MIT in the second round, 12-9. Wesleyan was a 16-6 winner over York (Pa.) and Colby topped College of New Jersey 15-11 in their respective second-round games.

The Bullets did not meet any of the other teams in its regional during the regular season but the third-round matchup is a rematch of last season's NCAA semifinal in Salem, where they defeated William Smith, 15-10.

Senior Jordan Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye) leads the attack with 108 points and 67 goals. Her 41 assists are second on the team while she has also added 35 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Sophomore Julia Daly (McLean, Va./Langley) is second on the team with 66 goals and third on the squad with 82 points. She also has a team-high 25 caused turnovers. Senior Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) paces Gettysburg with 47 assists and is second with 84 points, adding 37 goals, 41 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

Junior Emily Crane (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) leads the way with 117 draw controls while also adding 34 goals and 14 assists for 48 points. Junior Lily Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) has 92 draw controls to go with 39 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. Sophomore Julie Breedveld (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) is second on the team with 24 caused turnovers while contributing 34 goals and 15 assists for 49 points.

Senior Gillian Cortese (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) has backstopped the defense with an 8.06 goals-against average and .483 save percentage.
