THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) led off the second inning with back-to-back singles before a fielder's choice and caught stealing had a runner at third with two outs. A miscue on the infield allowed DeCandia to score for a 1-0 lead.
• In the third,
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) reached on a one-out error before
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) and
Giovanna Komst had back-to-back base knocks to make it a 2-0 game.
• Julia Craig reached second on a throwing error to lead off the bottom of the fourth before pinch-runner Nikki Sellers advanced to third on a groundout. After a hit batter, a single back to the pitcher allowed Sellers to score and cut the deficit in half.
• Lindsey McCurdy led off the home sixth with a triple to the fence in right-center before Sam Burns dropped down a perfect bunt up the first-base line for the single and tied the game at 2-all.
• With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Megan Heard put a ball just out of the reach of the Gettysburg infield. After she moved to second on a wild pitch, Craig reached on an infield single but the ball was thrown out of play, which allowed Heard to score the winning run from third.
