THE SKINNY STORY
Dickinson scored 28 of the final 36 points to turn a one-score game in the second quarter into a 49-21 victory over Gettysburg.
THE LEADERS
•
Michael Zrelak (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Bullets with his second straight game with 150 or more rushing yards, carrying the ball 19 time for a season-high 159 yards and a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 24 yards for 183 all-purpose yards.
FOR THE FOES
• Ben Klassen led the Red Devils, completing 19 of 25 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball 12 times for another 74 yards and three scores.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg took the opening possession six plays down the field. After two big pass plays, including a 30-yard completion to
Gabriel Diaz (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park),
Michael Zrelak needed three carries to cover the final 23 yards for a 7-0 lead with 12:15 to play in the opening quarter. Dickinson responded with an eight-play, 61-yard drive that Ben Klassen capped with a one-yard run, tying the game with 8:29 showing.
Isaac Parks-Gill (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) hit a 45-yard field goal to put the Bullets back in front with 3:48 remaining but the Red Devils responded with a 13-play march and 40 seconds into the second quarter Klassen hit Moritz Mittendorfer for a four-yard touchdown and 14-10 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
• Cedric Benning ripped on a 22-yard touchdown run on the next Dickinson possession to push the lead to 21-10 with 9:54 showing. Gettysburg took its next possession into the red zone before it stalled and the Bullets had to settle for a second Parks-Gill field goal. He hit from 38 yards to cut the margin to 21-12 with 5:38 to play. Out of the two-minute timeout, Klassen broke up the middle with a 15-yard run for a 28-13 lead at the break.
• Dickinson then took the opening possession of the third quarter 75 yards in 13 plays and chewed up nearly seven minutes of the clock before Klassen hit Kellen Boyer for a one-yard touchdown strike. Gettysburg responded with its own long drive, taking it 77 yards in 12 plays and eating up 6:24 of game clock before
Sean Clark (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) hit
Nick Wonsala (Manasquan, N.J./Wall Twp.) from five yards out. The two-point conversion made it 35-21 with 1:34 on the third-quarter clock.
• Klassen added a six-yard scoring run in the first minute of the fourth quarter and found Kevin Schmidt for an eight-yard score midway through the period for the 49-21 final.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Nate DeLorenzo (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) led the Gettysburg defense with seven tackles, including a sack, and a forced fumble.
• The Red Devils outgained the Bullets 510-353 on the day, nearing splitting their yards with 250 rushing yards and 260 passing yards.
• Dickinson retained the Little Brown Bucket for the ninth straight year, matching the longest winning streak by either team in the long series.
