THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg went on a 15-3 run that spanned from the final minute of the first quarter through the first three minutes of the second quarter to take a seven-point lead and did not look back to record a 73-59 win over 15th-ranked and previously undefeated Amherst in the opening game of the D3hoops.com Classic.

THE LEADERS
Sarah Bertolette (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) led four players in double figures for the Bullets with a career-high 16 points to go with nine rebounds and a blocked shot. The sophomore eclipsed her previous best in a single game with 10 first-half points.
Briana Robles (Westchester, N.Y./Poly Prep) added a season-high 13 points that included a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers.

FOR THE FOES
• Annie McCarthy led the Mammoths with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists.
• Laura Mendell also reached double figures with 11 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Behind four points from Elizabeth Cain, Amherst jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the game's first 3:47. Briana Robles hit a layup on the cut then Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) converted from short range on the missed opportunity for a three-point play to close the margin to 8-7 but Annie McCarthy canned a 3-pointer on the other end to stretch the advantage back to four. The teams traded points until Sarah Bertolette hit a layup and Robles was fouled on a heave at the end of the quarter then made two of the three attempts to make it an 18-17 game after one quarter.
• Bertolette hit a short jumper to give Gettysburg its first lead on the opening possession of the second period. The run extended to 9-0 over the two periods before Sylvia Lydia drained a triple to make it 22-21 with 8:11 showing. Three layups from three different Bullets over a 38-second span stretched the lead to 28-21. The Mammoths closed to within 30-26 but Gettysburg scored seven of the next nine points and ultimately took a 37-30 advantage into the intermission.
• An Amanda Rapel (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) 3-pointer stretched the Bullets lead to 10 with 8:17 on the clock. After a step-back triple from Robles made it a 46-32 game with 6:11 to play, McCarthy responded with a trey of her own to spark a 7-0 run that cut the deficit in half just over 90 seconds later. Robles had the other end of the bookend of stretch, draining a 3-pointer from the other side to push the lead back to 10. An Olivia Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) steal-and-layup and two Robles free throws matched the largest lead of the game with 3:09 remaining. Those seven straight points sparked a 13-3 run to close the period and give Gettysburg a 59-42 lead entering the final quarter.
• After Sasha Brody (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) knocked down a triple to open the fourth quarter and make it a 20-point advantage, Amherst scored eight of the next nine points and trimmed the margin to 63-50 with 6:33 showing. The teams traded points until a McCarthy 3-pointer and two free throws from Laura Mendell closed the deficit to 10 with 2:51 to play. Rapel, however, scored in transition to stem the tide and push the lead back to 12 a minute later and seal the win.
