THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Maddie Passarello (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) fired across the field to
Sophie Smith (Great Falls, Va./Langley), who was able to finish from the right side for a 1-0 Gettysburg lead with 12:39 on the first-quarter clock. Exactly one minute later,
Lauren O'Connell (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) finished a
Michaela Kelly (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) pass for a 2-0 lead.
Julia Daly (McLean, Va./Langley) needed just 34 more seconds before she found Breedveld in the middle for a 3-0 lead, forcing a Middlebury timeout. Caroline Adams finally dented the scoreboard for the Panthers with 6:36 to play. Just 36 seconds, she found a cutting Maggie Coughlin to cut the deficit to one. Coughlin then found Hope Shue for the equalizer with 5:23 showing. Adams then hit on a free-position attempt with 1:33 to play in the period to take the lead for good.
• Two Adams solo runs around one from Shue in the second period extended the lead to 7-3 at the break.
• Coughlin kept the run going with 12:58 to play in the third quarter before Breedveld scored 26 seconds later to snap a 28-minute, 33-second scoring drought. That only momentarily halted the Middlebury momentum. Two more Shue goals around a Skylar Lach tally made it 10-4 with 6:23 showing. O'Connell found the back of the net for the second time with 5:41 on the clock but Coughlin and Adams each connected from eight meters for a 13-5 lead after three quarters.
• A Daly free-position goal with 9:03 remaining made it 13-6 but Shue found Sophia Lee and Lach nearly six minutes apart for the final margin.
