THE SKINNY STORY
In its first-ever home NCAA regional game, No. 16 Gettysburg used a four-run third inning to key an 8-0 win over John Jay in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Div. III regional tournament.

Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) tossed a three-hit shutout for the Bullets with six strikeouts and no walks.

Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) drew a four-pitch walk with one out in the bottom of the first inning before scoring on an
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) triple to right for a 1-0 lead.
• A one-out dropped fly ball in the second and
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) walk put runners at first and second for Gettysburg. With two outs,
Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) reached on an infield single, driving in both runners in the process for a 3-0 lead.
• A one-out walk to Hopple and
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) double put two on base. A
Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo./Erie) single to center scored Hopple before
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) doubled home DeFreitas and
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) singled home the other two runners for a 7-0 lead.
• Bergan manufactured the eventual run-rule run in the home fourth. She reached on a second infield single before taking second on a wild pitch, third on a sacrifice and scoring on a Hopple sacrifice fly.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Paige Forry threw Gettysburg's first complete-game shutout in NCAA tournament play. It was also the Bullets' first-ever run-rule victory in tournament play.
•
Audrey Bergan had two hits for the Bullets, who had eight as a team.
• MIT defeated Ramapo 8-1 in the day's second game to also advance in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament, which started four hours after the originally scheduled time due to heavy overnight rains.
NEXT UP
Gettysburg will take on MIT on Friday with the winner advancing to Saturday's regional final. Game time on Friday is 12 p.m. There will be two elimination games to follow the regional semifinal.
