THE REST OF THE STORY
• Olivia Shutter drove and hit a layup on the game's opening possession. It wasn't until a Breana Grim 3-pointer with 7:48 showing that either team could find the basket again. Trailing 7-0,
Reagan Chrencik hit a 15-footer to get Gettysburg on the board with 6:40 to play in the opening quarter. Free throws from
Olivia Jones (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and
Sasha Brody (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal) in the final 1:39 coupled with a
Briana Robles (Westchester, N.Y./Poly Prep) drive just before the final horn cut the deficit to 11-8 at the end of the period.
• Chrencik scored the first nine Bullets points of the second quarter, extending the run to 15-2 over a 3-minute, 46-second stretch to put the visitors in front 17-13 and force a timeout. Seven straight points from
Sarah Bertolette (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) extended the lead to 28-17 with 2:37 to play in the period. After the Spartans pulled to within 32-24, Chrencik drained a corner triple to push the lead back to double digits at the break.
• The teams traded baskets through the first five minutes of the third quarter. Two three-point plays – one from Robles and one from Chrencik – helped match the largest lead of the game to that point at 43-30 with 6:31 on the clock. Five straight points from
Adeline Standish out of a stoppage stretched the lead to 48-32 with 3:33 to play. In total, Gettysburg finished the quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 54-36 advantage to the final period.
• A pair of Standish layups to start the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 20 for the first time before Shutter hit a triple with 8:05 on the clock to spark a 7-0 burst that made it a 58-43 game two minutes later. The Bullets extended the lead to as large as 24 on
Caitlyn Nagle's (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) first five collegiate points before two Ariana Phillips free throws with 40 seconds left set the final margin.
