THE REST OF THE STORY

Emma Bradshaw (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) kills staked Gettysburg to a 2-0 lead in the opening set that the hosts would not relinquish. A block from
Gianna Galli and
Ava Grall (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) started a run of four straight Franklin & Marshall errors followed by a
Clare Farrell kill that opened up a 12-3 lead. The Diplomats closed to within 14-10 and 16-12 but that was as close as they would get in the 25-17 opening set.
• After Galli and Ceci Connolly traded kills to open the second set, Bradshaw and
Ellen Manke (Madison, N.J./Morristown Beard School) each knocked down a kill and
Halle Feth (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle Rock) dumped one over for a 4-1 lead. Franklin & Marshall closed to within 9-8 Gettysburg wrapped up a 25-13 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• Trailing 3-2 in the third set, a Mya Anderson kill started an 8-1 Diplomat run to open up a 10-4 advantage. The Bullets, however, countered with eight of the next 10 points to tied the set at 12-all. Back-to-back kills from
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) opened up a 15-13 edge. The lead swelled to 21-17, forcing a Diplomat timeout. Back-to-back Abby Silinski aces tied the set at 21-all. After the teams traded points, Mia Mascherino put down an ace and Connolly finished off a 25-23 victory to force a fourth set.
• The Diplomats raced out to a 4-1 lead in fourth set and never trailed. Melody Butzer served seven straight points to open up an 11-3 lead en route to a 25-17 victory.
• Franklin & Marshall tallied the first three points of the fifth set before Gettysburg was able to claw back to within 8-7 on a Bradshaw knockdown. The teams traded points but two Mascherino aces in a three-point stretch opened up a 13-9 lead and two Connolly kills put away a 15-10 win.
