THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg swept its way through a pair of home matches, defeating both Muhlenberg and Stevenson by 3-0 scores.
THE LEADERS
•
Clare Farrell (Livingston, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) led the Bullets with double-digit kills in both matches and hit .409 on the day. She recorded 12 kills with no errors on 31 attempts in the win over Muhlenberg before notching 17 kills on 35 attempts against Stevenson. She also had two blocks in each match.
FOR THE FOES
• Kelliann Keogh led the Mules with seven kills.
• Rachel Lenz paced the Mustangs with nine kills and 14 digs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• A pair of
Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) aces keyed an 8-1 start to the opening set against Muhlenberg. The Mules drew back to within 8-4 on back-to-back Kelliann Keogh kills. However, a
Clare Farrell kill started another 5-0 run to open up a 13-4 lead. Two
Ellen Manke (Madison, N.J./Morristown Beard School) aces around a pair of
Emma Bradshaw (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) kills keyed another run of six straight points to make it 21-9 en route to a 25-10 victory.
• Muhlenberg jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set.
Ava Grall (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) drew the set even at 5-all with an ace. After a back-and-forth and with the set tied at 9-all, Farrell knocked down a kill and
Kierra Fox (Phoenix, Ariz./Rancho Salerno Prep School) had three straight aces to ignite a 16-3 finish and 25-12 win.
• Three Keogh kills in a four-point stretch helped Muhlenberg open up an 8-3 lead in the third set but
Kaitlyn Hedrich (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln Way) served eight straight points to flip the set and give Gettysburg an 11-8 lead. Grall capped the sweep with an ace for a 25-17 victory.
• Trailing 5-3 in the opening set with Stevenson, Grall put down consecutive aces to start a 14-5 run that Fox capped with an ace of her for a 17-10 lead. The Mustangs pulled back within 17-15 but the Bullets were able to stave off the rally and win, 25-21.
• The second set featured 12 ties and six lead changes. Stevenson opened up a 22-15 lead on a Maren Zepfel kill but a Bradshaw knockdown and two from Farrell ignite a 7-1 run that cut the margin to 23-22. Zepfel gave the Mustangs set point but Farrell responded to make it 24-23 and an error tied the set at 24-all. Sydney Salazar once again made it set point but Manke and Grall went up for a block to tie the set at 25-all. Manke then knocked down a kill and the duo made the match score 2-0 with another block for the 27-25 victory.
• Tied at 8-all in the third set, Hedrich dumped a kill before
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Farrell each knocked one down. A
Halle Feth (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) added an ace to make it 12-8. Holding a 16-14 edge, Grall knocked down a kill then served five more Gettysburg points for a 22-14 lead en route to a 25-18 win for the sweep.
