THE REST OF THE STORY
• Behind a 4-for-6 start from deep, Muhlenberg raced out to an 18-0 lead in the game's first 5:13. Veronica Dawson netted 10 of those points, including bookending the run with triples. An Olivia Jones step-back and two free throws helped cut the deficit to 18-6 with 2:56 remaining in the opening quarter before the Mules bookended a second Adeline Standish basket with layups to make it 22-8 after one period.
• Lyndsey Costigan hit a trey to start the second half and extend the lead to 25-8 just 92 seconds into the period. After the teams traded baskets, Jones and Kimberly Hopkins drained back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 27-16 with 6:07 remaining. The teams basically traded points the rest of the way and the hosts took a 34-21 lead to the locker room.
• Four straight points from Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) cut the deficit to 36-35 midway through the third quarter. A Hopkins wing 3-pointer with 1:52 showing made it a single-digit game for the first time since the 7:34 remaining in the first quarter. A Briana Robles (Westchester, N.Y./Poly Prep) three-point play with 3.3 seconds showing cut the deficit to 37-31 entering the final period.
• Chrencik started the fourth quarter with a layup to get the margin to four. After a single Dawson free throw, Standish hit a pair of layups to make it a 39-37 game and force a timeout with 7:28 to play. A Robles layup on the break tied the game for the first time since the beginning of the game with 7:12 remaining. Dawson responded with two free throws on the other end to put the Mules back in front. After free throws gave Muhlenberg a 46-43 lead, putbacks from Skylar Reale (Warren, N.J./Morristown Beard) and Standish gave Gettysburg its first lead at 47-46 with 2:10 to play. A Hopkins jumper and Jones 3-pointer on the next two possessions opened up a 52-46 lead with 1:03 remaining. Jones then canned two free throws to stretch the advantage to eight 22 seconds later. McNulty hit the Mules' only field goal of the fourth quarter – a triple with 35 seconds left but Jones hit both free throws at the other end to seal the victory.
