THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 18th in the latest D3baseball.com poll, scored 10 runs in the third inning of game one en route to a 17-4 victory over Susquehanna. The Bullets held a 4-0 lead with one out in the top of the fifth inning before the game was halted due to weather.
THE LEADERS
•
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) led the Bullets with a three-hit game one, adding two RBIs and two runs scored.
FOR THE FOES
• CJ Orrega led the River Hawks with a pair of hits.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the first game,
Mike Coleman (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) drew a one-out walk to start a 10-run third inning. An error, balk and hit batter loaded the bases before a
Brayden Casas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) sacrifice fly plated the first run before a
Jack Amirata (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) three-run home run stretched the lead to 4-0 with two outs. A
Will Roche (Milton, Mass./Boston College H.S.) four-pitch walk and
Brendan Laqui (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) put runners at the corners. A
Henry Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) RBI single and
Robert Murphy RBI double made it 6-0. After a pitching change, Coleman singled up the middle to score two more and
Will Stellato (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) blasted Gettysburg's second long ball of the frame for a 10-0 lead.
• Lucas Zachesky reached on an error to start the bottom of the fourth before a two-out Lincoln Hower double got Susquehanna on the board with an unearned run.
• A Dylan Heyduk one-out triple and wild pitch made it 10-2 in the seventh before doubles from Owen Ayers and Michael Girardi around a CJ Orrego single and Hower sacrifice fly closed the margin to 10-4 in the eighth.
• Gettysburg plated another seven runs in the top of the ninth. Two singles and two walks started the big inning.
Dominick Balsamo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) had the only extra-base hit of the frame, roping a two-run double to the gap with two outs.
• In game two, Stellato led off the second inning with a home run for a 1-0 lead. Amirata singled with one out before scoring on a Roche double. Laqui then singled home Roche for a 3-0 lead.
• A Laqui home run to lead off the fifth made it 4-0. After a groundout, Murphy singled up the middle before play was suspended.
