Gettysburg names Redington as head field hockey coach

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sara Redington has been named Gettysburg College's next head field hockey coach, announced by Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Troy Dell on Thursday.

Redington comes to Gettysburg after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at fellow Centennial Conference (CC) member Dickinson.

"We are pleased to have Sara join us as our next field hockey coach," Dell said. "She has proven herself as a coach. I'm confident in her ability to take over our program and build on the history of success of Bullets field hockey."

She helped the Red Devils to a 19-4 record in her second season on staff, including an 8-2 record in the conference and the third seed in the CC tournament. Dickinson won two games in the tournament and advanced to the title game before earning an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament, defeating St. Mary's (Md.) 3-1 in the first round.

She was a key member of the 2025 CC Coaching Staff of the Year, contributing to the development of a program that was ranked nationally in the top 15 of Division III over the final seven weeks of the season, climbing to as high as No. 11. She helped mentor three first-team all-conference selections and two players who garnered all-region and All-America honors.

"I'm really excited and grateful to be named the head field hockey coach at Gettysburg College," Redington said. "I want to thank Troy Dell and the entire search committee for trusting me with this opportunity to work with such a great group of student-athletes. Gettysburg has such a strong tradition and truly cares about developing students both on and off the field, which makes this place really special. I'm looking forward to getting started and can't wait to see where we can take this program together."

During her time at Dickinson, she conducted individual academic meetings, organized drills and helped run the Red Devils' social media accounts. She completed the NFHCA Campfire Mentorship program and was a supervisor for the Hera Society National Girls and Women in Sports Day clinic.

Prior to her time in Carlisle, she was a graduate assistant at DeSales from 2022-24. She was part of the MAC Freedom Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022, helping guide the Bulldogs to their first conference championship and NCAA bid. She also assumed head coaching duties in the spring of her final year. In addition to the on-the-field work, she also coordinated alumnae outreach. During her two seasons in Center Valley, the team posted an overall record of 24-14 and went 14-1 in conference play.

While at DeSales, she also completed an internship with the associate director of athletics with a focus on student-athlete mental health and helped with management of MAC Freedom and NCAA tournament events.

She has also spent time as the head coach of field hockey at Centercourt Club and Sports as well as an assistant at Bethlehem Catholic High School. She has also worked numerous camps and clinics in the region.

Redington played four seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham, helping the squad to the 2018 and 2019 MAC Freedom titles and the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Gettysburg opens the 2026 season at home against Alvernia on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
