THE SKINNY STORY
For the third straight year, 60 minutes was not enough to decide the season-opening outcome between Gettysburg and Alvernia. This time, the Bullets needed just shy of five minutes of extra time for a 2-1 home victory.

Sydney Yaw (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) scored the game-winner for the Bullets.

• Ava Michael netted the equalizer for the Golden Wolves in the 53rd minute.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a scoreless first quarter,
Sabrina Post (Poquoson, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) collected a rebounded shot-and-save and knocked it home for a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Just a few minutes later, a ball caromed off the post and
Colleen Ragan (Manasquan, N.J./St. Rose) cleared it off the line for her first defensive save.
• Off a penalty corner, Ava Michael made off a move off her defender at the top of the arc and then fired home a hot shot off the backboard for the game-tying goal with 7:43 to play.
• Alvernia thought it had the game-winner early in overtime but the shot came from just outside the arc and was disallowed. Gettysburg wasted no time getting to the other end.
Jillian Somers (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) crossed a ball from the right side of the circle to the back post, where
Sydney Yaw was waiting and knocked in the game-winner.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The victory was the first for new head coach
Sara Redington in her first game as the head coach.
• Gettysburg finished with a 12-3 advantage in shots and 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.
