Student-Athlete Mental Wellness

Gettysburg College Athletic Department understands the demands and pressures that are placed on student‐athletes to be successful on and off the field. At Gettysburg we are not only concerned with you physical condition but also your mental wellbeing.

In‐person resources

There are many resources on and off campus that are available to support student‐athlete mental wellness.

On Campus: The athletic training staff, as well as your coaches, are available to discuss any concerns you may have. Online self‐help: The NCAA provides guidance and support nationally to all student‐athletes; this resource can be found at http://s3.amazonaws.com/ncaa/files/ssi/mental‐health/toolkits/student‐athlete/story.html.

Gettysburg College provides additional online resources including TAO (Therapist Assisted Online), which provides a variety of confidential self‐help resources for anxiety, depression, relationships, mindfulness, and more! https://thepath.taoconnect.org/local/login/index.php. Simply create a confidential account with your college email to access these self‐help programs.

ASK LISTEN REFER is an online suicide prevention training program that will teach you to:
  • Recognize the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs of suicide
  • Identify people at risk for suicide
  • Respond to, and get help for, people at risk of suicide

Finally, there is a self‐ assessment screening tool for various mental health disorders at: http://screening.mentalhealthscreening.org/gettysburg.

ALL conversations and self‐help assessments are confidential in nature. Self‐help assessments are not a substitute for contact with a mental health professional. On campus counseling staff are available to discuss the results of the screening with you.
