Michael Kovach enters his second season as assistant men’s soccer coach at Gettysburg College in 2019. Kovach also serves as an assist with the tennis programs and will begin his second season in the spring of 2020.
Kovach comes to Gettysburg from Connecticut College, where he served as an assistant men’s soccer coach for two years from 2016-17. He helped lead the Camels to a 19-9-5 record, including a 9-6-5 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). In 2017, he helped the team reach the NESCAC playoffs and earn a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 1995.
As a student-athlete, Kovach was a standout winger at Messiah, where he helped lead the Falcons to back-to-back Division III national titles in 2012 and 2013. He was named the Offensive MVP of the NCAA tournament in 2012, when he scored five goals over the team’s last four games, including an overtime game-winner in the semifinals. A three-time All-MAC Commonwealth Conference selection, he also helped Messiah win three Commonwealth Conference titles and finish with a four-year record of 86-3-5. Kovach concluded his playing career at Messiah with 31 goals and 24 assists.
A native of Odenton, Md., Kovach graduated from Messiah in 2015 with a degree in Health and Exercise Science. He has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2016, and has worked with numerous professional and collegiate athletes from the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.
