Kirby Scott '77 returned to his alma mater in 2015 to assist the track and field programs. Scott assists the programs in developing proper techniques and skills to manufacture speed and agility.

Since returning to assist the track and field programs at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium, Scott has coached a number of top performers, including
Ty Abdul-Karim '18, who became the first Gettysburg runner to win both the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2018. He has also coached the sons of some of his former teammates in cousins
Jimmy Barnes '20 and
Ken Barnes '20.
No stranger to speed, Scott was a standout running back and sprinter at Gettysburg in the mid-70s. On the gridiron, he gained a school-record 1,890 yards and scored 18 touchdowns during his three-year varsity career. Scott scored 10 touchdowns as a junior before putting up a single-season record 932 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 1976. He was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press in 1976.

Scott was also an outstanding performer on the track and gained All-America recognition by helping the 400-meter relay finish fourth at the 1977 NCAA Division III Championships. He was inducted into Gettysburg College's Hall of Athletic Honor in 1991.

Scott, who gained a degree in health and physical education at Gettysburg, spent 30 years as a Special Agent with the FBI before retiring from the organization in 2012. He now maintains his own business as a tactical training consultant.
