Marybeth Bindel enters her third season as a member of the athletic training staff in 2020-21.
Bindel is a 2015 graduate from nearby Messiah College where she was a four-year contributor to the women’s lacrosse team. She finished her career with 52 goals in 68 games and helped the Falcons post a record of 51-23 and compete in the NCAA Division III playoffs twice. Bindel helped Messiah claim the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth championship in 2015.
As an undergraduate, Bindel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training and worked with many of Messiah’s top athletic programs, including women’s soccer and wrestling. She also served a PT clinical assignment at PSU-Hershey Sports Medicine and received hands-on instruction in implementing injury preventive strategies with the football team at Dickinson College. Following graduation, she went on to serve as an intern athletic trainer at Dickinson where she worked primarily with field hockey and women’s lacrosse.
Previously, Bindel attended West Chester University where she attained an M.S. in Sport and Exercise Science with a Concentration in Athletic Training. She was the primary athletic trainer for men’s soccer, baseball, and women’s lacrosse and assisted with the women’s soccer program. Bindel provided medical support for a baseball team that captured the NCAA Division II title.
Bindel received her athletic trainer’s certification from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) in 2015 and she is a licensed National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Performance Enhancement Specialist. She has researched and presented several important topics on student-athlete well-being, including her master’s thesis entitled “Exploring the Relationship between Aerobic Fitness, Functional Movement, Injury, and Patient Reported Outcomes in Women’s Lacrosse.”
Bindel, a native of Glen Arm, Md., and graduate of Mercy High School, is no stranger to Gettysburg athletics, competing against the Bullets as a student-athlete and helping the athletic training staff provide medical coverage for summer camps in 2014.
