Casey Thurston begins her third season as an assistant coach on the Gettysburg staff.
 
Thurston comes to Gettysburg following a successful coaching career at Gettysburg High School. She was a two-time Gettysburg Times Coach of the Year (2008, 2011) and led the Warriors to the Mid-Penn Division championship three times (2011-2013). Thurston’s team won the overall Mid-Penn title in 2012, finished District III runner-up in 2008, and advanced to the state semifinals in 2008. She posted a 120-85 record as the Warriors’ head coach. Prior to arriving at Gettysburg High School, Thurston was an assistant coach at her high school alma mater, Shippensburg High School, from 2003-07.
 
Thurston played collegiately at Kutztown University and Shippensburg University. She spent two years at each institution and served as team captain of the Raiders during her senior year. As a high school player, Thurston finished her career as Shippensburg’s all-time leading scorer (1,466) and rebounder (1,091) and was a first-team All-District III selection in 2000.
 
After graduating from Shippensburg University with a degree in history, Thurston began her career as a teacher, first in the Chambersburg Area School District from 2005-07 and then in the Gettysburg Area School District. She currently teaches social studies at Gettysburg High School. Thurston attained a master’s degree in educational technology from Walden University in 2010.
