Christina Wakefield enters her second season as assistant women’s soccer coach at Gettysburg College in 2019. Wakefield will also serve her second season as an assistant coach with the tennis programs in the spring of 2020.
Wakefield joins the Bullets after an outstanding playing career at Boston University. She was a First Team All-Patriot League (PL) selection as a senior in 2017, when she tied for the team lead with 13 points on five goals and three assists. The forward helped the Terriers finish 10-8-3, including a 6-2-1 mark in Patriot League play. BU qualified for the Patriot League tournament and captured a first-round victory to reach the semifinals.
In her first two seasons with the Terriers, Wakefield helped the team capture back-to-back Patriot League titles to earn consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division I tournament. In 2014, she scored four goals for a team that went 14-5-3 and 6-1-2 in the Patriot League. One year later, she tied for the team lead with four assists and earned Third Team All-PL status as BU finished the season 13-6-3 while going undefeated (8-0-1) in league play. The Terriers also earned an NCAA tournament victory that season with a 2-1 overtime win over St. John’s.
Off the field, Wakefield was selected by head and assistant coaches for the Bloomsberg Leadership Academy, aimed at growing leadership skills in work, school, and athletic environments. She graduated from BU in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
