Laura Burnett-Kurie is entering her second season as an assistant coach with the Gettysburg women's soccer team following an outstanding collegiate playing career.
Burnett-Kurie is a 2008 graduate from Hobart and William Smith Colleges where she earned a degree in psychology and had dual minors in child advocacy and education. A forward on the William Smith soccer team, Laura was just the fifth Heron to record 100 career points, finishing her career with 42 goals and 18 assists for 102 points. Over the years, Burnett-Kurie collected numerous awards including all-state, all-league, and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region four times. Additionally, she was an NSCAA All-American twice, the 2004 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, and the 2006 Liberty League Player of the Year. Over her four-year career, she led the Herons to a 56-13-8 record, including a 23-3-2 mark in the Liberty League. William Smith finished the 2007 season ranked sixth in the final coaches poll with a 17-1-1 overall record.
At the 2007-8 annual Heron Awards Banquet, Burnett-Kurie received top honors as she was awarded the Winn-Seeley Award given to an outstanding senior athlete for her achievements in service, leadership, athletics, and academics. In 2006-07 she was awarded the Susan Bassett Award given to a junior who displays excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership.
Also accomplished in the classroom, Burnett-Kurie was a three-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree, and a 2005 Academic All-American. She was named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team three straight years, and was one of 10 New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Scholar Athletes for 2008. Burnett-Kurie also received dual New York State Teaching Certifications for Elementary Education and Special Education.
During the summer of 2009, Burnett-Kurie played for the Adirondack Lynx, a member of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. She was named WPSL All-East First Team after helping the Lynx to a 7-3 regular season record and a playoff berth.
