WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team continued its charge to the postseason on Wednesday with its first sweep of host McDaniel College in five years. Junior
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) had a hand in six of the Bullets' 11 blocks as the visitors took the match by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-18.
Gettysburg (16-7, 5-2 CC) won its fifth straight and broke a tie with McDaniel (15-10, 4-3 CC) for fourth in the Centennial Conference standings with the victory. The Bullets tied a season high with 11 blocks and forced the Green Terror into 24 hitting errors.
Senior
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) paced the offensive attack with 12 kills and added a dozen digs for her 10th double-double effort of the fall. Junior
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) posted nine kills on 15 attempts without an error and contributed to four blocks. Burns posted five kills, one solo block, and five block assists and senior
Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) came up with an all-around effort of seven kills, 11 digs, and five block assists.
Senior libero
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while senior setter
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) dished out 31 assists and put up a dozen digs.
Taylor Herrgott and Sara Hanlon were a combined 22-for-49 with five errors for McDaniel, but the remainder of the team combined for just 16 kills on 79 attempts with 19 errors.
Gettysburg will look to continue to make a move up the Centennial standings on Saturday, Oct. 24, when it hosts third-place Swarthmore College (18-6, 6-1 CC) at 1 p.m.
