Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team dropped each of the first two sets at Ursinus College on Saturday and appeared headed towards its third consecutive Centennial Conference loss. However, the Bullets came alive in the third set and blew the Bears' upset bid out of the water, sweeping the final three sets in dominating fashion.

Ursinus (6-11, 1-4 CC) was on the fast track to a victory over Gettysburg (12-7, 2-2 CC) with 25-20 and 25-18 decisions in each of the first two sets, taking advantage of a combined 14 hitting errors by the visitors.

Beginning in the third frame, the momentum changed hands as the Bullets' attack rebounded from its poor start and finished with just two hitting errors in its final 63 attempts. The hard-hitting attack, highlighted by 15 kills in the fourth set, helped Gettysburg pull out the final three sets 25-11, 25-13, and 15-6.

Three players connected on 10 or more kills, led by senior Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) with a dozen kills and 15 digs. Senior Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) knocked down 11 kills and also tallied 15 digs, while junior Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) went for 10 kills and three blocks. Junior Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) just missed double-figures with eight kills and totaled a match-high five block assists.

Senior Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) and sophomore Brooke Wano (New Derry, Pa./New Derry) led Gettysburg with 19 and 15 digs, respectively, and senior setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) added 31 assists, four aces, and 13 digs. Sophomore Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) helped fuel the offense with 16 assists.

Mary Kate Wilmoth led Ursinus with 15 digs and 16 digs.
