Box Score

COCOA, Fla. – Sophomore Cam Riera (Medway, Mass./Medway) and freshman Drew Roy (Needham, Mass./Needham) each had a big day at the plate as the Gettysburg College baseball rolled past Penn State Brandywine, racking up 17 hits en route to a 15-2 win in the sixth game of the Bullets Spring Break trip to Florida Thursday morning.

Riera continued his hot start, finishing 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBIs, two doubles, and a triple while upping his season batting average to .458. Roy was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and a pair of triples.

Senior Sam Stabert (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) also contributed to the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Sophomore Matt Karis (Southborough, Mass./Noble & Greenough School) was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs while classmate Chris Simard (Lexington, Mass./Belmont Hill) scored three runs.

On the mound, sophomore Kyle Conklin (Wantage, N.J./High Point) made the most of his collegiate debut for Gettysburg (2-6), allowing only two runs over eight innings while striking out six.

The Bullets never trailed and scored at least one run in all but two innings. After scoring once in the top of the first, Gettysburg added three runs on two hits and an error in the second before adding another run in the third to make it 5-0. The Lions got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Orange & Blue added another run in the fourth before breaking the game open with a three-run third to assume a 9-1 advantage. Roy provided the big blow, delivering a two-run triple to center. He tried to stretch it into an inside-the-park home run, but was thrown out at the plate on a relay throw from the shortstop.

Gettysburg tacked on two runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth.

Conklin, whose six strikeouts were a team-high for the season, did not allow more than three baserunners in any inning and left eight men on base. Freshman Bobby Martz (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) blanked the Lions in the ninth and induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Bullets resume action on Friday, when they take on Norwich University at 10 a.m. in a doubleheader.
