GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the first time this season, the Gettysburg College softball team suffered back-to-back losses as reigning Commonwealth Conference champion Lebanon Valley College handed the host Bullets a pair of setbacks in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchmen scored four unearned runs to take account for all the scoring in the opener before run-ruling the hosts in five innings with a 12-4 decision in the nightcap.

Juniors Sarah Woodbury (Audobon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) each had hits in both ends of the doubleheader for Gettysburg (15-5), the latter knocking a double and a home run, while sophomore Megan Lott (Bellsville, Md./Pallotti) and freshman Catrina DelGais (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) each went 3-for-3 in the nightcap.

After striking out 14 Bullets in her first meeting with Gettysburg last season, Lebanon Valley (14-6) pitcher Val Malizzia held the hosts without a hit until the fourth inning. Her teammates gave her a four-run lead to work with in the third inning as Janey Kozlowski and Meghan Donoghue each plated two runs with two-out hits.

Gettysburg's only extra-base hit in the opener came via a pinch-hit double by McCullough to lead off the seventh. The Bullets failed to bring the runner home, however, as Malizzia induced three fly outs.

Malizzia improved to 8-0 on the year after allowing just three hits, walking one, and striking out five. Senior Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) took the loss for Gettysburg, falling to 6-4 after allowing seven hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Lebanon Valley struck first in the nightcap with a run in the opening inning, but the Bullets answered emphatically in the second as McCullough smashed her second homer of the spring over the center field fence.

The Dutchmen blew the game open in the third with a combination of hits and Gettysburg errors. The visitors brought around seven runs on five hits and two Bullet miscues, including a bases-clearing double by pitcher Kristen Palmerio. Lebanon Valley scored four more runs in the next two innings to end the game.

McCullough (8-1) suffered her first loss in the nightcap after giving up 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks in three innings. Sophomore Alyssa Karl (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) threw the final two innings and gave up two runs and four hits.

Lott and DelGais knocked a double and triple, respectively, among their three hits, the latter adding one run and one RBI. Senior Jessica Wallick (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) also doubled for the hosts and drove in a run.

Palmerio (3-3) surrendered four runs on 10 hits en route to the victory on the mound. She also helped herself at the plate with three base knocks, one run, and three RBI. Caitlin Keller was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI for the Dutchmen in the nightcap, while Kerri Datres scored three times.

Gettysburg resumes its Centennial Conference schedule this weekend by hosting Haverford College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m.
