GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team maintained its perfect mark with another sterling defensive effort against Washington (Md.) College on Saturday, allowing a season-low three goals in a 16-3 Centennial Conference victory at Clark Field. The sixth-ranked Bullets have held each of the last five opponents to season-low goal totals and are now 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Sophomore
Marnie Commins (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) paced the attack with a career-high five points on one goal and a personal best four assists to lead Gettysburg. Junior
Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Old Greenwich) tossed in a career-high four goals, while junior
Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) tickled the twine three times.
The Bullets never gave Washington (5-3, 0-2 CC) an opportunity to jump ahead as the hosts scored each of the first seven goals of the game with Emala, Hearn, and junior
Hollis Stahl (Highstown, N.J./Peddie School) each scoring twice. Sam Ohrem put the Shorewomen on the board at 17:40, but Gettysburg closed the half on a 5-0 run with Commins tossing on one goal and assisting on two others.
The hosts dominated possession of the ball in the opening half, winning 10 of 14 draw controls and out-shooting Washington 22-5. Gettysburg was also 3-for-4 on free position shots in the first period.
In the second half, the Bullets continued to hold the momentum and allowed only a pair of goals by Brittany Lambert. Sophomores
Becky Lutz (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and
Liz Lan (Chatham, N.J./The Pingry School) capped the Bullets' scoring with their first goals of the season.
Gettysburg forced Washington into 25 turnovers in the contest, including 13 caused miscues. Senior
Sara Tolner (Pasadena, Md./Severn School) and junior
Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) keyed the defensive pressure and each finished with two caused turnovers, the former adding three ground balls and the latter posting four ground balls and two draw controls. Lutz turned in an all-around performance for the Bullets with a goal, four ground balls, two draw controls, and one caused turnover.
Gettysburg was an efficient 16-for-33 on its shot attempts on the afternoon. Hearn finished 3-for-4 on free position shots and junior
Jessica Crane (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) cashed in with two goals and one assist.
Junior
Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) picked up the win in goal for the Bullets with a pair of first-half saves. Sophomore
Laura McIntyre (Glenmoore, Pa./Coatesville) played the entire second half and also notched a pair of stops.
Ohrem posted one goal and two draw controls for Washington. Sarah Cannon dished out one assist, while Carly Gardner caused three turnovers. Goalie Amber Madore played the whole way in goal for the Shorewomen, finishing with eight saves and five ground balls.
Next up for the Bullets is a conference contest at McDaniel College on Tuesday, March 31, at 3 p.m.
