MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – Gettysburg had its four-game winning streak to start the new season halted in its first contest as part of the Snowbird Tournament on Monday with a 3-0 loss to NCAA Division II Seton Hill University, but the Bullets bounced back in the second game of the day with an 8-0 victory over Penn State Berks.
Gettysburg (5-1), which had scored 26 runs in its first four games, managed just one hit against Seton Hill's Louanne Wiegand. Senior
Jessica Wallick (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) accounted for the Bullets' lone base knock, while classmate
Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany) suffered her first loss of the season on the mound, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.
Gettysburg's offense got back on track in game two and finished off the Nittany Lions in six innings. Senior
Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) led the charge with her second homer of the spring and totaled three RBI, while senior
Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) doubled, scored twice, and stole a base. Sophomore
Megan Lott (Bellsville, Md./Pallotti) also doubled and plated a run with junior
Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and sophomore
Casey Bialek (Glenville, Pa./South Western) each tallying a hit and an RBI.
Junior
Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) improved to 3-0 after fanning four batters and allowing one hit and one walk in four innings. Sophomore
Alyssa Karl (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) closed the win with a scoreless pair of innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Gettysburg picks up play at the Snowbird Tournament on Tuesday, March 10, with contests against Penn State Harrisburg and Pitt-Greensburg at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
