LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg College jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its Centennial Conference match up with Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, but the host Diplomats rattled off the game's final seven runs to take sole possession of first place in the conference standings. The loss ended the Bullets' season-high five-game winning streak.

Gettysburg (13-13, 6-3 CC) and Franklin & Marshall (14-9, 7-2 CC) each secured victories on Monday to jump into a tie atop the CC standings. Carrying their winning streak into Tuesday's game, the Bullets jumped in front in the second inning as junior Kevin Langhauser (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) singled in the first run. The visitors added two more runs in their next at bat when junior Chris Simard (Lexington, Mass./Belmont Hill) singled, stole second, and came around to score on a double by Mike Backus (Piscataway, N.J./Immaculata). Backus accounted for the Bullets' next tally, scoring on an error by the shortstop.

The Diplomats tied the game in the fourth with a two-run single by Russell Tischler and a run-scoring single by Andrew Hanson, both coming off Gettysburg starter Will Kleva (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City). After sending nine batters to the plate in the fourth, Franklin & Marshall sent the same order to bat in the fifth and once again struck for three runs to take the lead.

The Bullets managed only three hits in the final six innings against Diplomat starter Nick Markel, who improved to 3-1 with the victory. Kleva picked up the loss (1-4) after giving up eight hits and six runs (four earned) in four innings.

Simard led Gettysburg with a pair of hits and two stolen bases. Freshman Drew Roy (Needham, Mass./Needham) added two hits, while sophomore Matt Karis (Southborough, Mass./Noble & Greenough School) managed a hit and a walk.

Jason Anderson and Eric Bornstein each went 3-for-5 for the hosts, with the former scoring a pair of runs. Tischler and Nick Rolnick each plated a pair of runs.

Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall hit the diamond once again on Friday, April 10, at Kirchhoff Field in Gettysburg, Pa. The nine-inning affair is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
