Bullets Look to Make it Two in a Row at Ursinus

OPENING STATEMENTS
Coming off a big 20-3 win over Muhlenberg to pick up its first Centennial Conference victory of the season, the Bullets look to make it two in a row as they visit the Ursinus College Bears in another CC tilt.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Gettysburg leads Ursinus 31-17-4 in the all-time series that dates back to 1903. The Bullets have captured the last three meetings and six of the last seven.

LAST MEETING
Matt Flynn threw for a career-high 399 yards – five shy of the school record – and three touchdowns on 16-of-23 passing while the Bullets defense rolled up seven sacks as Gettysburg cruised to a 38-7 Centennial Conference victory over Ursinus in Gettysburg. Flynn threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to tight end David Rodriguez '09 on the Bullets first play from scrimmage for the Bullets, who accumulated 539 yards of total offense, Gettysburg's most since 2005. Receiver Gavin Jablonski finished with six receptions for 120 yards, both career-highs, while Rodriguez had two catches for a career-high 124 yards. Leading the defensive effort was defensive end Josh Jerrold '09, who had 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and five tackles. Defensive end Vincent Ferrante also had 2.5 sacks.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Matt Flynn threw for 335 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-38 passing and Gettysburg picked up its first victory of the season, defeating Muhlenberg 20-3 at a rainy Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Junior tailback Jamel Mutunga rushed for 91 yards on 27 carries and caught five passes for another 58 yards for Gettysburg, which shut out Muhlenberg over the final three quarters and out-gained the Mules 486-220. It was the fewest points Gettysburg allowed since its 10-3 win over Muhlenberg on Oct. 29, 2005, which was also their last win over the Mules. Muhlenberg, the two-time defending Centennial Conference champion, had won the previous three meetings. Junior wing Charles Curcio scored a pair of touchdowns on a 10-yard run and a 24-yard pass and finished with 144 all-purpose yards, including 70 yards receiving on four catches. for Gettysburg while junior receiver Gavin Jablonski caught four balls for 65 yards.

Ursinus was on its bye last week, but the Bears defeated Juniata College 31-0 in their Centennial Conference opener two week ago. Ursinus had 441 yards of total offense, balanced almost perfectly with 202 on the ground and 239 in the air. Junior quarterback Justin Decristofaro threw for 234 yards on was 16-of-31 passing and two touchdowns while rushing for additional TD. Sophomore running back Travis Evans rushed for 124 yards on 19 carries.

THE GETTYSBURG OFFENSE
The Gettysburg offense continued to roll last week, racking up 486 total yards in its win over Muhlenberg, which entered the game leading the Centennial Conference in nearly every defensive category. The Bullets have now amassed at least 361 yards in each of their four games thus far and have surpassed 400 yards three times. As a team, Gettysburg leads the Centennial Conference and ranks 14th in Division III with 494.8 total yards per game. The Bullets are also second among the conference leaders and 15th in the nation in passing offense (316.8). Senior quarterback Matt Flynn continues to lead the conference in total offense, averaging 332.8 yards per game, a mark that also ranks 12th in Division III. He has also passed for 312.5 yards per game to rank second in the conference while throwing eight touchdowns against four interceptions. The offense has achieved outstanding balance, scoring nearly the number of touchdowns through the air (eight) as it has on the ground (nine), and the Bullets ranks second in the conference in both rushing (178.0 ypg) and passing (316.8). The ground game is led by junior tailback Jamel Mutunga, the conference's fourth-leading rusher, who has run for 430 yards and three touchdowns. Gettysburg's leading receiver is junior Brian Betley, who has hauled in 21 passes for 231 yards. Senior tight end #A.J. Perrotti# is tops on the team in touchdown catches (three).

THE GETTYSBURG DEFENSE
Gettysburg's new-look defense hit its stride last week, limiting Muhlenberg to 220 yards, including just 61 on the ground. Junior defensive end Matt Coffey had a breakout game for the Bullets, making a pair of sacks, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble on his way to earning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. For the season, sophomore linebacker Joe Delaney leads the team with 34 tackles and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions. Junior defensive end Sebastian Sullivan has racked up 28 tackles, including 3.0 for loss, while recovering a pair of fumbles. Senior linebacker Tim Widdoes has added 28 hits while junior safety Nick Duerr has made a team-leading three pass breakups. Junior linebacker Bryan DiSabato has contributed a pair of interceptions.

THE GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMS
Junior punter Brian Betley continues to lead the Centennial Conference in punting for the Bullets, averaging 39.1 yards. Classmate Mike Barrett has connected on 13-of-14 extra points and after making a pair of field goals last week, ranks second on the team in scoring with 22 points. Junior Charles Curcio, who ranks second in the Centennial Conference in all-purpose yards (152.5 ypg), has taken the majority of the team's kickoff and punt returns and is averaging 4.8 yards on punts and 17.7 yards on kickoffs.

THE URSINUS OFFENSE
Led by senior quarterback Justin Decristofaro, the Bears feature one of the top passing games in the Centennial Conference. The left-hander has thrown for 752 yards and five touchdowns over three games and has his team ranked third in the conference in passing. Three different receivers have already caught over 10 passes in sophomores Al Desiderio (12 receptions, 306 yards, two touchdowns), Nick Giarratano (12 receptions, 147 yards, two touchdowns), and Kahil Pittman (11 receptions, 85 yards, one touchdown). The team's top rusher has been junior Travis Evans, who ran for 124 of his 132 yards against Ursinus. Freshman Teddy Conrad has also carried the ball 34 times for 92 yards.

THE URSINUS DEFENSE
On the heels of its shutout of Juniata two weeks ago, the Bears rank second in the Centennial Conference in scoring defense (18.3 ppg), second in rushing defense (112.3 ypg), and third in pass defense (193.7). Sophomore linebacker Greg Martell leads Ursinus with 20 tackles while junior linebacker Joe Galie has made 16 stops. Sophomore safety Andrew Regan and junior defensive tackle Dave Queroli have made 3.0 tackles for loss apiece while freshman cornerback Chris Roundtree has made two interceptions in the early going.

THE URSINUS SPECIAL TEAMS
The Bears also feature one of the top punters in the conference in freshman Derek Giannetti, who ranks second in the league with his 38.2-yard average. Sophomore kicker Keith Baker has connected on 6-of-7 extra points and 2-of-3 field goals, including a 35-yarder. Desiderio and sophomore Mike Rissmiller have split the return duties, with Desiderio averaging 8.5 yards on two punt returns and 21.4 yards on kickoff returns. Rissmiller has averaged 18.0 yards on five kickoff returns.

TODAY'S COACHES
Gettysburg is coached by Barry Streeter, who enters his 31st year at the helm of the Bullets. With 153 career victories, Streeter ranks 11th among active Division III coaches in wins. He is also 32nd on the all-time Division III coaches wins list. Streeter is Gettysburg's longest tenured and all-time winningest football coach.

Ursinus is coached by Peter Gallagher, who is in his ninth year at the helm. He has posted a 35-49 record during his tenure.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
While setting career Gettysburg records in every major passing category over the last two years, senior quarterback Matt Flynn has been ascending the Centennial Conference all-time charts as well. He is now second in conference history in total offense (7,299), fourth in touchdown passes (45), fourth in passing yards (6,477), and sixth in pass completions (471).
