Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson used a 17-3 run spanning parts of the first and second halves to pull away for their first win of the season, topping Gettysburg 74-61 in Centennial Conference men's basketball action Wednesday evening at the Kline Center.

The Red Devils (1-15, 1-10 CC), which received a game-high 20 points from Matt Dolan, shot extremely well for the night. Dickinson made 69.7 percent of their shots and went 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from 3-point range. The Devils also scored 23 points at the foul line, going 23-for-33.

With the win, Dickinson snapped a 10-game losing streak against Gettysburg, defeating the Bullets for the first time since a 74-59 victory on Feb. 24, 2004.

Gettysburg (9-8, 7-4 CC), which was held to 37.0 percent shooting, was led by junior center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), who scored 19 points. Sophomore guard Brendan Trelease (Union, N.J./Roselle Catholic) added 11 points while freshman center Christian Bors (Lanham, Md./Sidwell Friends [D.C.]) and freshman forward Alex Zurn (Brookeville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) contributed 10 points apiece. Zurn also grabbed six rebounds and had a season-high four steals.

Chris Harrington poured in 13 points off the bench for Dickinson while Douglas Jakiela added 10 points. Dolan, Harrington, and Chris Heine hit all of Dickinson's 3-pointers, hitting on three apiece. Heine finished with nine points.

The Red Devils got off to a slow start, missing on their first seven field-goal attempts while the Bullets opened the game on an 8-2 run. Gettysburg pushed its lead to seven (11-4) after a 3-pointer from Trelease, but that's when Dickinson began to heat up from the outside. Harrington nailed back-to-back treys sandwiched around a tip-in from Bors to make it 13-10. The Bullets went back up seven on two more occasions, the last coming on a pair of Bors foul shots that made it 19-12 with 9:40 on the clock, before the Devils closed the half on a flurry.

Heine capped a 9-0 Dickinson run when he drilled a three with 7:34 left, pulling his team even at 19. After treys from Harrington and Dolan and a lay-up from Jakiela, the Bullets tied it on a Powers baseline jumper with 3:47 to go. However, the Devils closed the period on a 13-1 run, which was started by back-to-back 3-pointers by Heine and Dolan.

The Red Devils put two points on the scoreboard with no time at the clock, as Barsanti picked up a foul on a drive to the basket at the buzzer. Gettysburg's bench was whistled for a technical foul after the call, and Barsanti went 2-for-4 at the line to give Dickinson a 40-28 halftime advantage.

Dickinson shot a blistering 70.0 percent (7-for-10) from 3-point territory in the opening half. Despite its early cold spell, the Red Devils finished 59.1 percent from the field in the period. The Bullets were held to 33.3 percent shooting in the half and were 30.0 percent (3-for-10) from beyond the arc.

The Devils continued their run in the second half and went up 44-30 after a long Dolan jumper with 18:46 left. Gettysburg responded with an 11-3, however, pulling to within six after a tip-in from junior forward Kevin Kennedy (Gaithsburg, Md./Quince Orchard) with 13:31 to go. But the Red Devils put the game away with another run, using a 16-1 outburst to build an insurmountable 63-42 advantage with 7:06 remaining. The Bullets were unable to get closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Washington (Md.) College at 4 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
