Box Score

YORK, Pa. – York (Pa.) College outscored Gettysburg 20-2 to open the second half and the Spartans ran away with the York Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, defeating the Bullets 86-61 at Charles Wolf Gymnasium in the tournament championship game Sunday evening.

The game marked the final non-conference game of the regular season contest for Gettysburg (4-5), which will close out the year with 15 Centennial Conference games.

Junior center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) led the Bullets with 18 points and was named to the all-tournament team after posting 27 points and nine rebounds in the team's tournament-opening win over Medgar Evers. Sophomore guard Brendan Trelease (Union, N.J./Roselle Catholic) added a career-high 12 points while junior forward Kevin Kennedy (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) contributed 11 points, with each player shooting 3-for-4 from three-point range. Senior guard Brendan Hager (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) dished out a career-high seven assists.

York (11-1) received 21 points and 15 rebounds from Paul Kouvaris while Nick Brady poured in 20 points. Jeremy Keefer and Kevin Whaley each posted 13 points.

The Spartans won for the second time in as many tries against Gettysburg this season after their 67-66 come-from-behind win in York on Nov. 24.

The Bullets led for the first five and a half minutes before a Brady three-pointer with 13:09 on the clock gave York its first lead (15-14). Hager put Gettysburg back in front with a lay-up, but the Spartans took the lead for good after another Brady trey with 11:52 to go, kicking off an 8-0 York run.

York led 27-18 before the Bullets drew to within one (30-29) with 2:52 showing following an 11-3 spurt, sparked by seven points from Powers and four from freshman forward Christian Bors (Lanham, Md./Sidwell Friends [D.C.]). But the Spartans closed the half on a 10-3 run to take a 40-32 lead into the locker room.

After York scored the first six points of the second period, junior guard Paul Crone (Braddock Heights, Md./Middletown) momentarily stopped the bleeding with a lay-up that made it 46-34 with 16:18 to go. But that's when the Spartans reeled off the next 14 points to open up a 60-34 gap with 12:20 left. A 13-3 run allowed the Bullets to make it a 17-point game with 7:36 left, but that's as close as they would get.

The Spartans took 13 more shots (59-46) than Gettysburg, thanks in part to their 37-27 rebounding advantage. Also, York committed just six turnovers while the Bullets turned it over 16 times. Gettysburg shot 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from three-point range but finished a season-low 47.4 percent (9-for-19) at the foul line.

The Bullets pick up their schedule on Wednesday, when they host Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference match-up starting at 8 p.m.
