Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) posted a career-high 19 kills, including three of Gettysburg's final four points in the clinching set, to lead her team to a 3-1 Centennial Conference victory at Washington College Friday night.

With five-set decisions coming in three of its last four contests, Gettysburg (13-12, 4-2 CC) managed to avoid another marathon match by taking down Washington (10-15, 2-4 CC) with scores of 25-16, 25-17, 14-25, and 31-29.

After handling the Bullets in the fourth set, the Shorewomen jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth frame and held match point six times. Yoder helped prevent a Washington win with score-tying kills at points 28 and 29, before notching the go-ahead kill to put the board at 30-29. Freshman Marcela Pallete (Winnetka, Calif./Notre Dame) capped the win with a kill.

Yoder topped her previous personal best by three with 19 kills on 34 attempts with five errors. Senior Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) put down 13 kills and junior Jamie Huffman (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) logged seven kills and 11 digs.

Freshman Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) recorded her sixth-straight double-double with 42 assists and a season-high 16 digs. Junior Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) posted two aces and 13 digs.

Friday's match was also part of the Centennial Conference's fifth annual Digging for a Cure campaign against breast cancer. Prior to the match, both Gettysburg and Washington took pledges and donations for each dig the teams recorded, with all proceeds being donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer in Haverford, Pa. The two squads totaled 130 digs on Friday.

Gettysburg resumes play on Wednesday, Oct. 20, with a home date against McDaniel College. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. inside Bream Gym.
