GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team kept pace in the Centennial Conference standings by handling visiting McDaniel College in three sets inside Bream Gym on Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (14-12, 5-2 CC) breezed to wins in the first and third sets against McDaniel (2-18, 1-6 CC) by scores of 25-15 and 25-13, but a sweep was in jeopardy early in the second set as the Green Terror jumped out to a 7-1 advantage. The Bullets went on to score 11 of the next 15 points and wrapped up a 25-23 victory on an ace by junior
Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee).
Seniors
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) and
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) combined for 15 kills in 32 attempts with just two errors to lead the attack. Freshman
Courtney Cyr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) recorded five kills and four block assists.
Freshman
Becca Johnson (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led the defensive effort with eight digs and recorded kills on both of her attack attempts. Junior
Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) and freshman
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) each put up seven digs, the latter also dishing out 22 assists.
With the win, Gettysburg moved into fourth place in the conference standings heading into a weekend showdown with second-place Swarthmore College (16-8, 6-1 CC) on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 1 p.m.
