Volleyball Survives Dickinson in Five

CARLISLE, Pa. –Seniors Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) combined for 31 kills and 14 blocks to lead Gettysburg College to a 3-2 victory at Dickinson College in Centennial Conference volleyball action Wednesday night.

After watching its 2-0 lead dissipate, Gettysburg (15-13, 6-3 CC) rallied for a victory in the decisive set and closed the match by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25, and 15-12. The Bullets notched season highs for kills (63) and assists (57).

Junior Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) logged her team-best ninth double-figure kill effort, posting 17 kills in 36 attempts with five errors (.333 attack percentage. Yoder and Burns finished with similar offensive numbers, the former going 16-5-29 (.379) and the latter going 15.5-27 (.370). Yoder also posted 10 digs, three aces, and four blocks, while Burns finished with 10 blocks.

Junior Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) handed out a career-high 32 assists and put up 13 digs. Freshman Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del.Archmere Academy) added 23 assists and sophomore Katie Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md./Covenant Life) finished with a match-high 17 digs.

Emily Kisak led Dickinson (5-16, 2-7 CC) with 13 kills.

Gettysburg has already locked up a spot in the five-team conference tournament scheduled for next week. The squad sits in fifth as of Wednesday night, but could move up if it can beat Muhlenberg College (6-20, 2-7 CC) on Saturday in addition to Ursinus College (10-16, 2-7 CC) beating fourth-place Johns Hopkins University (17-11, 7-2 CC). Gettysburg's match against Muhlenberg is set for 1 p.m. inside Bream Gym.
