Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds while senior guard Brendan Hager (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) dished out a career-high nine assists as Gettysburg pulled away late and closed out its regular season with a 61-46 Centennial Conference victory at McDaniel College Saturday afternoon at the Gill Center.

With the win, the Bullets (14-10, 12-6 CC) finish in second place in the final Centennial Conference standings to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs. Gettysburg will take on No. 3 seed Washington (Md.) College next Saturday at top seed and tournament host Franklin & Marshall College at a time to be announced.

Gettysburg, which trailed just once in the game's opening minutes, has now finished in the top-three in the Centennial Conference for the third year in a row after finishing third last season and second in 2007-08.

Sophomore guard Brendan Trelease (Union, N.J./Roselle Catholic) tied a season-high with 14 points off the bench and hit a pair of big 3's down the stretch for the Bullets, who broke open a seven-point game with a late 7-0 run.

Hager, who also scored seven points, handed out the most assists by a Gettysburg player since Greg Schreiber '01 also had nine at, ironically, McDaniel in a 77-64 win on Feb. 10, 2001.

Miguel Jones paced the Green Terror (8-17, 4-14 CC) with 17 points on 5-of-10 3-point shooting.

A driving lay-up from freshman guard Alex Zurn (Brookeville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) 1:46 into the game put Gettysburg on top 4-3 and gave the team the lead for good. The Bullets led 16-7 when Hager drained a 3 from the left corner, but Jones knocked down back-to-back treys to put his team back in it. The Bullets went back up by nine (26-17) when Powers converted a nice baseline feed from Hager with 4:11 to go, but McDaniel outscored Gettysburg 8-4 the rest of the way, and Gettysburg led 30-25 at the break.

Powers led all players with 16 points in the opening half, shooting 6-for-9 and 4-for-4 from the line.

Gettysburg struggled getting its offense going early in the second half, and a tip-in from Max Keenan made it a one-point game (37-36) with 12:00 left. A Marcus Dyson jumper with 9:26 showing made it 39-38, but that's when Gettysburg broke out with an 11-2 run to go up 50-40 with 5:33 left. Trelease started the spurt with six straight points, making a conventional 3-point play before nailing a trey that made it 49-40 with 6:23 to go.

The Bullets opened up their first double-digit lead (50-40) when Zurn hit 1-of-2 free throws with 5:33 remaining. McDaniel cut it to seven (52-45) with 3:01 left after Jones' last 3, but that's when Hager led Gettysburg on its late 7-0 surge.

Hager made both ends of a 1-and-1 for the second straight possession, before, following a McDaniel turnover, he sent an upcourt pass to Zurn, who threw down a fastbreak dunk. Trelease sealed the win with a trey, burying a shot from the left corner on a kick-out from Hager as the shot clock expired to push the Bullets lead to 59-45 with 51 seconds left.

Gettysburg shots 45.7 percent for the game and shot a season-best 93.8 percent (15-for-16) at the foul line, the Bullets best performance at the charity stripe since going 15-for-15 against Swarthmore on Feb. 16, 2008.

The Bullets out-rebounded the Terror 29-24.
