MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Gettysburg College softball team settled for a split on Wednesday at the Snowbird Tournament, falling 3-0 to a hot squad from Bridgewater College and capping the day with an 8-0 victory in six innings against Bluefield College.
Bridgewater (8-2) had out-scored its previous five opponents 48-1, but Gettysburg (4-3) managed to hold the Eagles in check as senior
Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) allowed just three hits and struck out four over seven innings of work. Bridgewater posted the game's first tally in the fifth and added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
The Bullets were stifled at the plate by Eagles' hurler Heather Jenkins, who allowed only one hit and hit one batter. Junior
Caitlin Bay (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) accounted for the Orange and Blue's only base knock.
Gettysburg bounced back in the second game against NAIA Bluefield, ending the game with an inning to spare. Sophomore
Lanie Parr (Washington, D.C./Academy of the Holy Cross) picked up her second shutout in as many days by allowing only three hits and striking out four.
Sophomore
Catrina DelGais (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) plated half of the Bullets' run total with a career-high four RBI, three coming via a two-out, bases-clearing double in the second inning. She finished 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk, and a stolen base.
Freshman
Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) posted two hits in four trips to the plate and scored twice. Seniors
Sarah Woodbury (Audobon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and
Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) each went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Gettysburg closes out its spring trip on Thursday, March 11, against Randolph College and North Carolina Wesleyan College at 9 and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
