Box Score

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Gettysburg scored six times in the eighth inning and the Bullets had another outstanding day at the plate, banging out a season-high 20 hits in a 14-10 victory over New Jersey City University Thursday afternoon during the team's Spring Break trip to Florida.

Two days after belting 17 hits in a 15-0 win, Gettysburg (4-4) smacked six extra-base hits and all but two of their runs over the final four innings. Every Bullet starter had at least one hit, and eight different players had a multi-hit game.

Gettysburg trailed 9-8 heading into the bottom of the eighth before sophomore Augie Stadtmueller put the Bullets in front to stay with a two-run triple. Gettysburg added to its lead with RBI-singles from junior Chris Simard, senior Kevin Langhauser, and senior Mike Backus and a run-scoring triple from junior Cam Riera.

The Gothic Knights (3-4) threatened in the top of the ninth, putting runners on first and third with no outs, before senior Michael Sweeney came on to retire three straight batters and pick up the save.

Sophomore Drew Roy had a monster day for the Bullets, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBIs, a double, and two triples. Langhauser continued his hot start, finishing 4-for-6 with a triple while Stadtmueller drove in three runs.

Riera, Backus, junior Matt Karis, sophomore Clint O'Brien, senior Craig Barrows, and Simard all had two hits. O'Brien and Barrows scored two runs apiece while Simard also had a pair of RBIs.

The Bullets rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game with a four-run fifth. Roy provided the big blow with a three-run triple.

Gettysburg plated one run in each of the next two innings, but New Jersey City went in front with a three-run eighth, setting up the Bullets big rally in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman Ryan Taylor earned his first collegiate win for Gettysburg, tossing 4 1/3 innings of relief while yielding five runs on six hits. Classmate John Donovan started and went 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits.

Gettysburg continues its southern swing on Friday, when it plays Wisconsin Lutheran in a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m.
