Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Joy Hallfors (Mt. Air, Md./Linganore) ran her way to the opening runs in both ends of a doubleheader against Washington (Md.) College to lead the Gettysburg College softball team to 5-2 and 5-0 wins Saturday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field.

After missing Gettysburg's (14-11-1, 6-4 CC) last outing against Dickinson College, Hallfors jumped back into the lineup and made an immediate impact with four base hits, two runs, and one RBI in the two-game set against Washington (10-14, 3-7 CC). The Bullets also received a pair of solid pitching outings from sophomore Lanie Parr (Washington, D.C./Academy of the Holy Cross) and senior Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead), the latter notching her third conference shutout of the spring in the nightcap.

Gettysburg looked to jump on the board in its first at bat of the day as Hallfors beat out an infield single to the shortstop and junior Megan Lott (Bellsville, Md./Pallotti) followed with a single up the middle. The hosts were unable to cash in on the early opportunity as a fielder's choice eliminated the lead runner and a fly out and strike out ended the frame.

Washington nearly brought home the opening run after getting a lead-off walk to start the second inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Lindsey Glascock singled up the middle and the runner on second rounded third and made a break for the plate, but Hallfors threw a perfect strike to home for sophomore catcher Adrienne Rahs (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) to apply the tag.

Hallfors used her speed to turn in the game's first run in the third inning. With one out, she laid down a perfectly placed hit in between home plate and the pitcher's mound. Trying to catch the Bullet speedster, who would have been safe on the play, Brittany Walter hurried the throw and sent it sailing over first base. After realizing the ball had rolled all the way to the right-field corner, Hallfors turned on the jets and sped around second and third, touching home before the ball made its way back to the infield.

The Shorewomen answered in the next frame as Laura Wagoner doubled home the tying run before being thrown out trying to reach third base.

The hosts came right back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, starting with an impressive at bat by sophomore Catrina DelGais (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern), who battled back from a two-strike count to hit a single up the middle. She came around to score on a double by freshman Sam Bader (York, Pa./Central York), who in turn touched home on a single by junior Caitlin Bay (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata). Hallfors capped the inning with a run-scoring single, her third base hit of the game, to set the score at 4-1.

Leigh Carbutt led off the fifth frame with her third home run of the spring to close the deficit to 4-2. DelGais provided the answer for Gettysburg with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the inning to set the final score.

Hallfors finished 3-for-4 with a run and one RBI, while Lott, DelGais, and Bader each added two hits. Parr improved to 8-3 after allowing six hits, two runs, and three walks, while striking out three.

In the nightcap, Hallfors and Lott started off another game with back-to-back hits, the latter smashing a double to left to plate the former. Bay drove home the next run in inning two with a triple and all of Gettysburg's remaining runs came via Washington errors in the fifth and sixth innings.

Gettysburg's offense did not have to overexert itself in game two as McCullough mowed through Washington's batting order, allowing just three hits and striking out four.

Senior Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph's Academy) and Bay each posted a pair of hits in the nightcap to pace the Bullet bats.

Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, April 13, with a road trip to Franklin & Marshall College. The two-game set is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
