Ryan Taylor earned his second straight complete-game victory while senior
Kevin Langhauser went 2-for-3 with four RBIs as the Gettysburg College baseball team jumped on top early to beat McDaniel College 8-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Langhauser belted a three-run homer and ended the game with shoestring catch for the Bullets (12-15, 4-9 CC) while seniors
Mike Backus and
Craig Barrows each went 3-for-5 with a double.
Four days after throwing a six-hit shutout at Franklin & Marshall College, Taylor (4-3), the Centennial Conference and ECAC South Region Pitcher of the Week, scattered eight hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out seven. He was aided by a defense that committed just one error and some spectacular plays from sophomore leftfielder
Drew Roy.
Matthew Pace and Jimmy Najera each collected a pair of hits for McDaniel (7-14, 3-10 CC).
The Bullets jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first after opening the game with three straight singles. Barrows doubled and scored leading off the second to make it 4-0.
Langhauser broke it open in the fourth with his three-run blast, drilling the first pitch over the left-center wall to put Gettysburg up 7-0.
Taylor left runners on second and third in the fourth before the Green Terror scored its lone run in the fifth. Tyler Jackow smacked a one-out double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout.
Gettysburg set the final score on a RBI-double from Backus in the sixth.
The Bullets and McDaniel complete their two-game season series when they meet at Kirchhoff Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
