HAVERFORD, Pa. – Freshman Pat Cody went 6-for-8 while junior Cam Riera collected his 100th career hit, but the Gettysburg College baseball team dropped both ends of a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Haverford College on Saturday, falling 12-6 and 12-10.

Haverford (20-10, 11-4 CC), which entered the conference second in the conference in batting average, banged out 28 hits for the day and slugged four home runs.

Junior Chris Simard went 4-for-8 for Gettysburg (13-17, 5-11 CC), which cracked 24 hits of its own, while senior Mike Backus broke yet another school record, this time for career doubles, pushing his current total to 40. He also hit safely in both games to extend his hitting streak to 12.

Senior Kevin Langhauser homered and tied the school record for career triples (18) while junior Matt Karis also went deep and drove in four run for the Bullets. Riera reached hit No. 100 with a fifth-inning single to center.

The Fords broke open the first game with an eight-run fifth that made it 10-3. Karis finished 2-for-2 with two runs, three RBIs and a two-run homer while Cody was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Senior Derek Zaleski started on the mound for the Bullets, making his first appearance since March 24 due to an injury. Zaleski (1-1) was charged with the loss after 4 1/3 innings, yielding seven runs on seven hits and two walks.

Jonny Williams (5-2) went all seven innings for Haverford, working a 10-hit complete game.

In the nightcap, the Fords raced to a 7-1 lead after five innings, thanks in part to a pair of two-run homers from Mike Galetta in the second and third. But the Bullets climbed back into it with a five-run, six-hit sixth in which it sent 11 batters to the plate.

The Fords came back with four runs in the seventh to go up 11-6, but Gettysburg refused to go away, posting a four-spot in the eight to make it a one-run game again. Langhauser belted a three-run homer before Cody singled in a run to make it 11-10. The Bullets then had the tying run on second but reliever Charlie Carluccio escaped with a flyout.

Haverford added an insurance run in the eighth before Carluccio tossed a three-up, three-down ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Cody posted his third four-hit game of the season, finishing 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. He is now hitting a blistering .540 (27-for-50) over 17 games and 11 starts this season.

Simard also contributed to Gettysburg's 14-hit attack, going 3-for-5, while Langhauser was 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Riera finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs while Backus scored twice.

Junior Kyle Conklin (2-3) threw 6 1/3 innings for the Bullets, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, before sophomore Michael Odierna threw the final 1 2/3, yielding three runs on four hits. Colin Sarafin (6-0) tossed 5 2/3 innings to get the win for Haverford and stay undefeated.

Gettysburg opens up a three-day, three-game stretch on Tuesday, when it hosts Stevenson University at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
