2010 IWLCA Major Awards
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – Recent Gettysburg College graduates
Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) and
Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) will need to build another room to house all the awards they each earned over the last four seasons, including the most recent honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Stahl was named the NCAA Division III Midfielder of the Year, while Ditillo was lauded as the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the IWLCA All-American Banquet held at the Crown Valley Plaza in King of Prussia, Pa., on June 12.
Stahl is Gettysburg's second Midfielder of the Year in the last three seasons, following in the footsteps of former teammate Katie Ceglarski '08 who landed the honor in 2008. She was the Bullets' leader in the midfield and led the squad in draw controls (66) and ground balls (29), while finishing second in goals (58), points (73), and caused turnovers (29). In 2010 alone she was named IWLCA All-America First Team,
WomensLacrosse.com All-America First Team, ECAC Metro/South All-Star First Team, and IWLCA All-Metro Region First Team. Stahl topped the list of Centennial Conference honorees as well, becoming the first back-to-back Player of the Year in the 17-year history of the organization in addition to being named first-team all-conference for the second year in a row.
Stahl lit up conference defenses for a league-high 28 goals in just eight games this spring and she turned in a team-best 11 goals in three NCAA Division III Tournament contests, leading to All-Tournament accolades. A two-time All-America selection by the IWLCA and
WomensLacrosse.com, Stahl capped her career second on the Bullets' all-time list for goals with 192. She also finished top 10 in school history in caused turnovers (third, 104), draw controls (fourth, 188), and points (seventh, 222).
Being named Scholar-Athlete of the Year concludes a remarkable four-year academic and athletic collegiate career for Ditillo, arguably the embodiment of what it means to be a collegiate student-athlete. Over the last few weeks, she has gathered a multitude of awards, not the least of which is being named
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team by CoSIDA for the second consecutive season.
Ditillo was a two-time first-team Academic All-District selection, two-time All-Centennial Conference pick, and helped the women's lacrosse team reach the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament three times. In 2010, she was one of two Bullets to appear in all 22 games and capped the year with career highs in ground balls (37), draw controls (40), and caused turnovers (18), while helping the defensive unit rank third in the nation in goals against average. Over the last four seasons, Ditillo appeared in 75 games with 60 starts and finished top 20 in school history in both draw controls (12th, 95) and caused turnovers (T-19th, 54).
Off the field, Ditillo was an exemplary student, posting a 3.97 GPA and graduating with honors in English and psychology. Her list of academic awards includes being the first recipient of the Janet M. Riggs '77 Endowed Scholarship, given to a worthy and promising student majoring in psychology at Gettysburg, and she was recognized by the NCAA as the Division III women's lacrosse winner of the Elite 88 award for having the highest GPA at the national championships.
