ATLANTA – The Gettysburg College volleyball team ran into some tough competition on the final day of the Emory University Classic on Saturday, Sept. 11, falling in four sets to No. 23 Tufts University before closing with a sweep at the hands of Springfield College.
Gettysburg (4-6) began the day against Tufts (2-2) with the Jumbos prevailing by scores of 25-14, 26-25, 17-25, and 25-11. Senior
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) paced the Bullets attack with 14 kills and classmate
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) added nine. Freshman setter
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) dished out 33 assists and libero
Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) put up 22 digs.
Springfield improved its season record to 7-1 and wrapped up second place at the tournament with 25-18, 25-18, and 25-20 victories over Gettysburg. Burns was once again the leader of the offense with 10 kills and Yoder tallied eight. Rubenstein continued her fine play in the back row with 16 digs.
Gettysburg returns home to Bream Gym for a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bullets take on Bryn Mawr College in the first Centennial Conference match of the year at 11 a.m. and close the day with Alderson-Broaddus at 3 p.m.
